Chinese demand for gold hit a record in the first quarter of 2012, according to the World Gold Council.

This demonstrates that the wealth is only growing in China. I wonder, however, if demand for gold in America, Australia and Europe has dropped?

Dear The Great Wall of Whiner,

While wealth is growing, so it the gap between rich and poor:

"The Gini coefficient, which measures the degree of income disparity, has exceeded international warning levels in China since 2000. In egalitarian Sweden, it is less than 0.25, while in South Africa it is more than 0.6. In China, it stands at around 0.5.
Cai Jiming, a member of the Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made waves in 2009 when he pointed out that a government survey found that 0.4% of the population in China possesses 70% of the wealth. The concentration is even higher than that in America, he declared. Since then, the voices warning that Chinas disparity of wealth has reached a dangerous level have grown louder."

What do you think - does this pose problems for the future?

Regards,
John

In any capitalist society that encourages the re-distribution wealth from the poor/middle to the wealthy such as America and to a greater extent China, it can only disenfranchise those affected negatively.

These are the things that revolutions are made from--- let them eat cake. Or how leaders like Hitler get into power.

All China needs is one Yang Rui in charge...
