This might seem like an odd question but Ill toss it out there anyway because Im getting nowhere searching the net and I figure other folks here in China might know something. Im somewhat new to this whole Android smart phone thing. Im not the techie type and am not up on most of the jargon associated with it. This week I bought the second Android smart phone that Ive ever owned. Its a Samsung mini Galaxy model, specifically a GT-S6500D. My first smart phone was simply too big and looked more like a small tablet than a phone. I got tired very quickly of lugging it around. My girlfriend inherited that. AnywayI wanted to register my new phone with my Google account and discovered I cant do it. Yes, Im an idiot for not realizing this before I left the store but, well, this is all pretty new to me. I had no trouble at all doing it with the first smart phone I bought. Went to settings/accounts and was presented with the choice of adding a Google account, which I did. Took 3 minutes. The Chinese staff at the store walked me through the process. My new phone, however, did not offer Google as a choice. (But it did offer Renren and QQ. ) Because I cant register the phone with my Google account I cant use the Play Store to get apps to download to it. I used the phones generic Email app and managed to add my Gmail to it and am using AppChina the best I can to find apps but its sort of a pain in the posterior because my ability to read Chinese is lower intermediate at best. Im curious if anyone else out there has ever encountered this problem and, if so, what you did about it. Just to let you know, I already tried setting the phone back to factory settings and that didnt work. |
