I got an offer in this city thats looking pretty good. The hiring director has been really helpful so far. Speaks good English, really enthusiastic about my application, open to negotiations on various points, etc.
It's the offer I am most excited about so far. But I asked her for email addresses of ts and she didn't get back to me. Whereas all other questions, she has answered.
I have a strong interest in this post but probably won't take it since I am not sure if I want to start this fall or next fall. Anyway just wanted to know if this is standard

Don't waste an entire year of your life. Consider his motivation to not answer you. If he refuses to answer one simple question, he is hiding something. Millions of jobs out there; good luck. |

Yep, what Whiner said.
If he answers all other questions but ignores you when you ask for other teacher's email addresses you have to wonder why he doesn't want you talking to the other teachers.
It's a standard type of request and common sense on your part to ask. |

If you don't take the job be sure to tell the director why you decided against it. Because he wouldn't put you in touch with current employees. People need to hear these things. |

Absolutely. I agree with this approach, too.
Just curious: People with experience in China, Do you think it's maybe just a control thing, as in, how dare you try to get around me as the source of information for all things related to this job?
Or do you think the odds are greater that something is actually shady about this deal? |

In my opinion, it's hard to tell. The Chinese workplace is very hierarchical and there could be a number of reasons why that person never answered your question about current or former employees. This place you applied to could well be above board. One characteristic lots of school directors seem to share is the inability or unwillingness to answer all questions in a timely fashion. I'm at my current workplace because they were the one place I applied at that did answer every question I had. |

There may not be any FTs renewing their contract. Worse, they may have all quit.
Qingdao idn't exactly the hub of high salary jobs. What were you offered? |

Exactly! I have seen some of the lowest paid uni jobs being advertised in Qingdao. Quite a nice city, but the salaries suck!
What's the name of the school? People might be able to give you some feedback on the school. |

I got some good info, thanks to people who sent me messages in my inbox here. I'm not looking to broadcast the name of the school here on the forum though. It is a business english focus, teaching adults, which is exciting to me because it's something totally new for me. I guess it's a fledgling institution. So they might not have any staff at all yet. Sounds like a mom and pop operation. Also I guess they are Korean owners and not Chinese. Anyway, going to keep looking for something a little more established. |
