| Anybody know if you need a CELTA or Trinity CERT to apply to Wallstreet English? |

I 'think' they do. They list a lot about CELTA/Trinity etc on their website. Im sure someone will pop up and say they know someone who works there without a cert, but I would guess its not common.
I was actually turned down there a few years ago, (although I was encouraged to re-apply later) because my two years teaching experience wasnt post-degree. At the time of applying I had almost 4 years experience + Trinity + English related degree but had only held my degree for 18 months. That excluded me (at that time) from the application process.
You can but try of course. Good luck |

The city I live in in, Wallstreet is the most expensive but the best well managed, and apparently the best results for students.
I've heard mixed reviews about working for them.
No one on this forum has first hand experience? |

Very difficult to comment on Language Schools as the majority of them are franchises so a lot depends on the franchisee. |

| I've noticed a schedule of 3 classes back to back, one hour break for dinner, then another 3 classes back to back, five times a week. I wonder how tough this might be. Can anyone who has worked for Wallstreet or know of it comment on this some more? The pay looks good and all that but I would hate to feel totally drained during/after work. And are weekends often included in the work schedule? |

| When will you ESL teachers learn? Better dead than work for Wall Street. If you think I exaggerate - think again. |

Some here work there or have worked there and said positive things. Personally, I think they are loopy but then again I never worked there. Once they told me the hours + office hours and salary, I bolted out the door like my ass was on fire. |

| Re: Opiate's Post Above. People will put up with a lot if they know no better. So the whole purpose of Dave's is to know better. Experienced teachers can share what they know, and newbies would do well to heed their warnings. |

The lessons are already planned, the teacher only needs to follow the lesson plans, so six classes a day wouldn't be too difficult, the pay is "decent" for a language school. |

If they pay 18-20k per month plus benefits, it's ok. If not it's a no go.

| Yeah, 16k but no free housing. So maybe subtract 4k from that for housing? Maybe not such a good deal after all it may seem. |

| Anyone think, all things considered, that a university gig that pays the usual 5,000rmb or so would end up being a better deal than the 16,000rmb paying WSE? Considering things like hours worked, housing being free at the universities. I'm thinking that a university job would not keep me very busy(correct me if I am wrong) so I would have plenty of time to find other work and make more money. Maybe someone who works at a university can verify this. |

What if your uni is in a place where there may not be many opportunities for private work though?
I have an offer - 6400, 2 bed apartment, 16 hours max, but it's in the middle of the Henan province in a small city (town really) I am wondering what I would do with all the free time!
My other offer is Wall Street . |

| I work for WSE. Yes, it's tiring, hours daily are inconsistant as even are the days off each week. I've just told my SM that I will not be renewing for another year. The 1 service hour is *just* enough to do student reports (called SPPs) and quickly gather things for the Social Clubs and CC classes, but if the stuff is crap....fast lesson planning is required. No time for English Corners, they need to be done in YOUR time, maybe at home. And you get 3-4 a week. So working full time hours, then going home and having to prepare EC's....exhausting. Then there's training you're required to go to every couple of months, again, your time (though you may get a bonus if your centre meets targets, mine rarely does). I'm exhausted, and have another (better) offer at a school with same pay at WSE part time hours, but INCLUDES housing! And Monday to Friday, normal work hours....I'm not going to know myself! |
