Hope this poll will help FTs get a handle on likely class size in public sector universities and vocational colleges.
Add a comment about class size trends if you've been teaching more than one year.

EXCLUDE ENGLISH MAJOR CLASSES AS THESE TEND TO BE SELF SELECTING.

Vo-tech college numbers may skew the poll because classes tend to be smaller--- MUCH smaller than university classes, even in non-English major classes.

Wouldn't this eliminate a large number (majority?) of responders from your poll? I voted anyway and my English Education major classes are from 34-39. I have two other classes of Chinese majors with 50 per class. All are writing classes.

I'm at a 'Science and Technology' university, my average English major class is around 33. My non-English major class is 54.

Sorry, I voted before I read your post about no English major classes. Seven of the nine FTs here teach English majors.

Thanks Ariadne
Just to clarify I want to keep the uni and vocational figures comparable.
My exp having worked in both sectors, is that vocational colleges don't have English as a major.
When I worked at Dalian Maritime U the English major classes were around 30 students while Navigation/Computer Science etc major classes were around 50 students.

Can't believe over a hundred views and only 7 contributions.
Aren't there any practising teachers on the site these days? Sad

Thanks Texas.
By all means add a post on your experience of class sizes.
My original intention was to avoid skewing the results with information that applies only to unis.

On the main campus of my university, the average is 26. On another campus (a private institute for those whose test scores are too low to get into the regular university and are charged twice the tuition) the average is 36. Again, I teach only English majors.
