At the end of the day, salaries are set according to what people will work for, not what they won't work for.
If there are adequate teachers who will work for $1 a month in X-country, that will become the going rate. The fact of other teachers, who aren't coming anyway, are asking for $2, won't have any effect, as long as there are teachers available for $1. That's basic economics.

But, unless you're either very lucky or very highly qualified, you're not going to get it.
It isn't the going rate. It is a heck of a lot of money here; More than the DOS is making in a lot of schools. More than you need to live. You have to know the market before you can know what is reasonable to expect.

Your point is certainly worth considering, but remember these are a false increased demand. We won't be writing enough letters as to be in the majority of applicants, I suppose our letters would just be a few among many, but ones that will make employers think if they never stop coming.

I dont know muych about economics but is this the law of "false demand"? What affect is changed by demanding more money falsely but irrelevant by false demand for new jobs? 
Maybe I can't explain it well but you seem to cherry-pick your expected result by saying false demand has an affect and false demand has no affect.
Do you know what I mean? |

What you have to consider, naturegirl, is that it wouldn't just be you doing this, but lots and lots of teachers.
I'm not defending spam, but it's a very small wrong in comparison to the wage slavery that goes on in our profession, and while it may annoy, it hurts no one. |

I think we've basically agreed that it's a silly idea.
The OP mentions the EU as a region where employers could afford to pay more. Times have clearly changed.
Like many others here, if I put my qualifications and experience and asked for what I'd expect - that's not going to help the 80% or 90% of teachers out there with much less than what I've built up. And if I made up a CV with more average quals, it would be simply an utterly fictional exercise from the beginning. |

Anyone hear about the 100-day student protests/riots in Montreal? Even after the modest proposed tuition increase, they'd still have the lowest tuition in the land.. but they're fighting this tooth and nail... and even for their right to protest!!! It's like we're back in the '60s again. |
