I think it's around 600 - 800 they'll take out for tax, but maybe some earning that amount can give you a more accurate figure. |

At the OLD tax rate, it is (was?) 665 RMB. Has anyone had to pay the new tax that everybody was so freaked about? |

Yes, the new tax is the 10-11% insurance/pension deduction. There seems to be a fair bit of confusion here in Suzhou about this still. Suzhou declared that it would be implementing this tax (while most cities are holding out hoping it will just go away). I know of several people in Suzhou who have had this deducted from their paycheck. Meanwhile, my college informed us in February we would be enrolled in the program and have the deduction, but it has not happened yet. My FAO said they are following the lead of Suzhou University who has not yet implemented it, but as soon as they do we will get hit by it as well (with the 10 months of backpay!).
Essentially, the schools don't want to pay the extra 37% share of the tax. So it seems that many places are fighting this. It's yet to be seen what will really happen. However, as I said, there are places in Suzhou who are deducting this NOW. So if you are contemplating a job in Suzhou, you should definitely ask about this. I know for a fact my FAO has failed to mention it to applicants (oops!), but when asked directly by them they have been told they will probably lose 10% of their salary next year. |
