There is the rest of the Gulf where one lives without any of the negatives of Saudi. No abaya... no head covering... one can take a walk freely... one can own and drive a car...
And make just as much money (or more) and similar benefits. Plus there are more jobs for women as you can teach either sex.

It is freedom... to go where you wish, when you wish, if you wish... no government or MAN to tell you otherwise.
If one doesn't live in an urban area with good transit (ie...95.3% of America and 99.7% of the Gulf), it makes one's life liveable.
And of course, those that are unable or afraid to drive are free to get around however they can.

Dear Grendal,
There, There - it's Hear, Hear- not Here, Here (unless, of course, you're really talking about there, which, for you, would be here. )
Regards,

I suppose it's easy to belittle that particular restriction of freedom, as a man. Considering women are well-known to be safer drivers, it must be infuriating to be judged 'not competent enough' to get behind the wheel, especially when you see the way Saudi men recklessly tear along the road like maniacs! |

| I'm a single female looking for a job in KSA, too. I haven't found a definite answer as to the worst place for females in Saudi Arabia, but it does seem that most people are united in advising Riyadh or Jeddah as the best places. I'm going to go with that. |

1) Khobar
2) Dammam
3) Jeddah
4) Riyadh
Any of the major cities mentioned above are better than small towns. Note that Riyadh is very conservative. It only has shopping malls to please the ladies. The other cities are a bit more liberal. You'll also find the beach to be very therapeutic after seeing rubble and sand almost everywhere.
Avoid the smaller cities and towns, unless you're okay with living an entire year alone with little to no contact with civilization. |
