Dear Hatcher,
Did you, perhaps, leave out a "to" after "used" in the title?
If so, I never got used to the inevitable mob scenes whenever a "line" was supposed to be formed.
And I never got used to the insane driving.
Regards,
John |

Having the "weekend" on the wrong days.
Even after 15+ years, I was still saying... "The homework for Monday... I mean Saturday." (or Sunday... depending on the country)

The ever changing prayer times, despite the fact that I have a schedule of the prayer times, seems I often manage to head out shopping just as prayers start, so have to hang about waiting for them to end. Although not a huge discomfort, it's just one of the small irritants of daily life in KSA... |

Same for me, VS! It's bad enough that I often don't remember what the current day is! Ah, and going from a Thursday/Friday weekend to other Mid East countries with Friday/Saturday as their days off just makes things worse. |

Which I got to avoid by living in one of the other Gulf countries... one can even shop during Friday prayers.

People stopping and staring--and I mean REALLY STARING--every time I was out in public. I was in a city with few westerners and, in fact, never once in a year saw another western woman in public. Despite the fact that I wore the same nondescript black abaya and hijab as every other woman, I frequently felt like the newest (and strangest) animal in the Abha zoo. I NEVER got used to it.
And, like VS, I never got used to the Thurs-Fri weekend either. In fact, I have to confess I often felt (I know, irrational) sorry for myself because I was working every Saturday and Sunday . . . |

This was never a problem. In KSA, I always think of Thurs. & Fri. as the weekend...I never get them mixed up...I mean come on! We live for the weekend; how could anyone get it wrong? |

The clouds of perfume that surround the women make me sneezy and itchy. |

Dear teechagimme,
The guys tend to pour on the scent, as well.
