|
|
I have a BA+Trinity Diploma and am planning on doing Master's degree.
I have three options.
a. An MA in Education (with ESL modules and possibility to write thesis around ESL topic)
b. An MA in Teaching & Learning in Further Education (with ESL modules & ESL thesis)
or
an MA in EFL.
I favour one of the first two as it means I do not have to move house/city/change children's schools etc.Which one do you think would be best for KSA. |

Doesn't matter which of the three as long as the degree isn't completed via distance/online (or there's no obvious indication of how it was obtained). Choose the one that best suits your needs and career interests. But you left out TEFL experience---where you gained it and in what specific context (e.g., public schools, language instititutes, or university). |

Here's a concern for me. I'm just about to begin work on an M.Ed., but due to the circumstances of my employment it's going to have to be a distance program. The university is legitimate - that is to say that it's not one of these all-online outfits. I just wonder whether employers out there in the ESL world will notice or care that my degree was obtained via distance courses. I read here that it may make a difference.
Can anyone expound on that one? |

The one way that they can tell is if you claim to have been studying for an MA at the University of Somewhere... while during the same year or two you were teaching full time with an employer in another country half way around the globe... it does rather stand out.
Some claim that they don't catch this sort of thing, but I wouldn't want to tell you that they wouldn't.

Also be aware that not all Saudi employers require or specify the degree be obtained on campus. I suspect this is the case with some private Saudi unis---which ones, I don't know. You'd most likely need to apply to find out. Of course, recruiting and contracting companies won't give a hoot about how you completed your degree, but these outfits are best to be avoided anyway. |
