Two days a week teaching in Nanjing, two days in Xuzhou. Public high schools, English and some science / IT classes.
Transportation to/from Xuzhou paid, and paid accommodations there.
2000 RMB housing allowance for an apartment in Nanjing -- anyone got a feel for how much more I'd have to add to that for a *nice* place in Nanjing? I'm not talking living like a king nice, but for example in Dallas, a one-bedroom in a nice neighborhood would be roughly twice that.
OTOH, I will be getting 9000 as after tax base salary plus bennies, so have a bit to burn while still being able to bank a little... |

Contact/teaching hours pw?
Add in commute time and planning time to give total time devoted to the job.
Accommodation and teaching all on one site is high on my job offer checklist. |

20 hours per week teaching, 10 hours "administrative" to include staff meetings. 3 hours each way city to city (which counts against the administrative time since that will be plan lessons, grade papers time), call it another hour? two hours, max? getting from the train station to where I'm sleeping that night.
I've had worse work weeks living 5 minutes by foot from an American school. |

Not what I would call a killer offer, but still reasonable. |

No, a post with a very specific question about housing in Nanjing.
One you have no input on, apparrently.
Which leaves one with the question : did you even *read* the OP? |

Private, school housing. Bog standard from the look of the pics and what others have had for me.
And regular train for three hours each way to be counted against the administrative time, as a subsequent post made clear, if one had bothered read it.
While I don't mind answering questions, I'd prefer not to have to repeat the answers. Nor am I interested in a tit for tat justification of my characterization of this offer, to further my response to another post.
Perhaps another title for the thread might have been better, but I started the thread to ask a specific question which no one has bothered to answer.
So, again: does anyone have a feel for how much more than 2000 RMB can expect to pay for a middlin' nice apartment in Nanjing? |

Yes, perhaps "killer" was overkill -- but it is by far the best one in my admittedly very limited so far experience as an FT. It addresses many, many details my "ace in the hole" (mentioned before) found with other contracts with which I have presented him.
And I get to teach a range of classes which is frankly a big plus for me -- and teach them at schools that aren't all about "Hey! Look! We can afford a gwailo on staff!"
Do you have any experience with the cost of apartments in Nanjing? |

My mate has a pretty decent place in Nanjing, 4,000, 2x bedrooms. 2,000 won't get you much anywhere decent. 3,000 maybe. This will leave you about 8,000 in your pocket for 30 hours a week.
to adress the other point, namely
''No, a post with a very specific question about housing in Nanjing.

Housing in nanjing was not mentioned in the title. Any post which contains the words 'killer offer' is bound to attract readers.
Sadly, this is not a killer offer, it works out at about 60 rmb per working hour. It is an insult. If you don't want people to rag on you for bragging, don't brag, especially over crappy, crappy offers |

That had been my understanding as well -- but since they are responsible for that transportation, they are also responsible for my being on time assuming I get on the train they tell me and I'm on the clock on the train, so ... |

Thank you for this input. This was a big question for me since it did seem a bit slim...

Who then, presumably would, you know, *read* the post in question.

As I have discussed in other recent threads during my job search, while being able to set some aside is a goal, it is not the only one, and this is more than 1000 RMB better than other offers I have had, while addressing the non-financial issues I have had with the others very well.
I appreciate your input, but it *is* killer, for me, for where I am in my career right now.
If you see that as bragging, there's little I can do about it. |

Multiple subjects, two schools, two abodes, 24 hours total commute both ways, four days per week, and only 2,000 rmb apartment allowance? Twenty hours class time plus ten hours for "administrative work"?
Nope. Not for fifty-four hours total. That's crazy. |

No, eight hours commute: the two days in Xuzhou are consecutive which is why I need the campus housing there. Two days in Nanjing, a train ride to Xuzhou, two days there, a train ride back. Most of three days "me" time, lather rinse repeat. And again, train time counts as office time -- I'll be grading papers and writing lesson plans. I'll want another battery for the notebook since I assume I'm not going to be able to plug in on the train but since I also won't be 'Netting, and can juice up once I'm there, that should work out. |
