I agree with Johnslat and VS. The other thing is that I'm hearing some (direct hire) universities are giving top preference to those applicants with a related MA---BAs and non-TEFL MAs either won't get a second look or the salary offered will be mediocre.
Powerpuffgirl, you didn't mention if your four years of Saudi experience was with recruiters/contractors or via direct hire. I suspect the former, which is why you're asking about 'correct' salaries. |

johnslat, nomad & VS: i was direct hire. I am thinking should I continue with my MA TESOL if my pre-MA TESOL experience will not be counted?
Am I better off salary - wise with my CELTA and 4 years post-CELTA experience alone?
I was on 14000 SAR PM incl TA at a "remote" university when i left in 2010, so i can see the situation has changed dramatically in KSA! Not surprising given the flood of recession refugees |

I wouldn't consider your post-CELTA experience as anything that grabs employers' attention; most want to see a valid TEFL cert anyway, so the14,000 SAR seems about right for your qualifications. However, the MA in TESOL will help boost your pay over the long run, especially if you plan on continuing your career in TEFL. I'm curious, though, as to what you thought the 'correct' salary should be for your current quals. |
