I'm applying for a university job and the agency are saying I have to send them copies of all the visa pages in my passport as this is a requirement of the local SAFEA in Shanxi.
I've provided them with every bit of information I think they need already. Reference letters, copies of CV, Degree and Passport, CELTA.

Has anybody had a similar request when applying for jobs?

Not ALL of them, just the personal info page and pages that have old Z visas and resident permits. Indonesia requires scans of all pages, but never heard of China asking for them. Both countries require three blank pages, so that's probably why.

Shocked They require all this crap for Shanxi province? Shocked If you have all these documents, why not find a job in a more developed province.

Why kick?
If they want all, give them all.
It's only another pass or two through the scanner.
It's a good idea to keep the thought 'Do I want to be offered this job?'
If the answer is 'yes' then do all they require.
Once they've indicated they want YOU, you can then consider if you want THEM.

As one who is living in Shanxi now (and moving as south as I can one week from the moment, thank God), I can confidently say this is not a uniform requirement here.

If you have other contracts you can consider, I would do that. This place sucks the soul out of people.

Since I wrote this they replied to me and said they have all the information they need !!

Maybe it's the masochist in me that's making me apply to Shanxi, I've done my homework on the place so I kind of know what to expect, plus it's quite a good deal for the uni job (because noone wants to go there)

The developed parts of China that I've been to just don't do it for me, I see too many arrogant little sh*ts with their new money, everything just feels so sterile and superficial.

It's not like you won't see those types there. They'll just look more sh*tty with all the poor people around there.
