I just graduated college with a BA in International Studies and I was wondering which is the best country for a beginner to start teaching English abroad? My primary reasons for choosing this lifestyle:

1. Cultural Immersion
2. international experience
3. Pay off debts, save money

I've read a lot of bad about each place. Japan ESL teaching seems to be drying up, South Korea seems to be having trouble upholding contracts, and Taiwan doesn't seem to process work visa's until months after you've been working illegally.

Also I'm not sure how to go about finding jobs, there doesn't seem to be very many online. Perhaps I'm just not looking in the right spots so if anyone could give me some ideas that would be great!

I'm aware that the "best place" is completely opinionated, nonetheless I would appreciate the input! Thanks.

1. Any place you work will provide this.

2. Any place you work will provide this, too.

3. How much per month do you have to pay? How much do you want to save beyond that?

Japan has more teachers than jobs. Bottom rung entry level work abounds but it is very competitive. When do you want to start working? Basically, you have a choice of ALT with JET or a dispatch agency, or eikaiwa (conversation school) instructor.

You most certainly are not looking in the right places! Look at the FAQ stickies in the Japan forum for starters. A mere Google search on "teaching English <insert country name here>" should provide a plethora of hits.
