Here's my situation. I'm vacationing in Southeast Asia right now and also applying for teaching jobs in China. I have a school that wants to hire me but they just informed me I need to return to my country to get a work visa before they hire me. It has something to do with sending documents to my embassy of citizenship. They could just send the documents to my embassy in Hong Kong, which is only a few hours from where I am, but this would make too much sense. Your thoughts please.

I am also applying from outside my country of nationality, but I am living here temporarily, not vacationing. I had to provide proof that I was legally a resident. I don't know if this makes the difference or not.

The documents for the Z visa, the invitation and work permit, are sent directly to you not an embassy.

But the letter of invitation must specify the embassy where you're getting the Z visa.

I've heard of some places in China that require the hiree to get the visa in their country of citizenship, but I've never had to.

I just read another poster saying in Shenzhen you cannot do zvisas in HK. Probably because that would mean things would be just too easy, or something.

That's true but it sounds like this person thinks the documents are bypassing them and going straight to some embassy where the visa will be processed. At least their post is worded as such. Just trying to clarify a point.

I was just wondering what Chinese provinces you received your z visa from and if you out of your country of citizenship at the time you applied for it. Thanks.

Henan and Hubei.

I was in Hong Kong (twice), Mexico, and India. I'm a US citizen.
