Actually registering is not that complicated. Does the school want you to register in order to be able to issue recibos de honorarios?

You can get yourself an accountant to hold your hand if you feel the need. (Ive done that.) But I find that the people at the SAT office are actually quite helpful, and every time I have to do some stuff there, what loomed before me as a difficult ordeal turns out to be quite easy and simple.

If you are just getting your RFC number it's a piece of cake. It used to be that the RFCs were easy to self generate, you intials plus birthdate. But some time in the past they added three additional numbers that appear to be randomly generated. So no matter what form of payment you will recieve or tax modality you will be paid under you need to get your official RFC number. Where I live they do it by appointment and the process takes about 10 to 15 minutes, so if they don't get behind on the appointment schedule you are in their office for less than 20 minutes total.

As bureaucrats go, those at SAT are courteous and friendly, in my experience.

However, they have closely set appointments, and have to maintain their schedule, so if you're a little dense, like me, they can run out of time and have to ask you to come again; but, I've rarely had to wait long to see them, and they've got right on trying to help me with whatever my question was, including doing some declarations for me while I watched!

Appointments are made on their website, as is everything else, it seems.

If you're doing your declarations, the website offers step by step instructions for each page- which works fine, so long as you read carefully and don't skip any steps.

www.sat.gob.mx

The website is for SAT (i.e. hacienda) in general. I don't think individual cities have a website.

Most of the website is in Spanish.
You can make appointments - citas - online and its worth it because then you don't have to wait in line.

I think you need to ask your school what exactly they want you to get at hacienda. Do they just need an RFC number so they can generate a paycheck? Or what?

Then go to hacienda and tell them what your school asked you to do.

It has been my experience as well that hacienda has been very helpful and organized.
