| I am contemplating a move from Wall Street to Disney. Yes, I know, adults to children. I am familiar with Wall Street but is there anyone who cares to share their experience with Disney? Thank you very much! |

I was asked to help them out with a "english corner" event once. We had a meeting for what would happen at the English corner, they were very organized and ran a tight ship. It was nice to see a schedule of exactly what they are going to do, at what time, for how long. In the end, I didn't wanna waste my time with waking up at 7am to go play "Look at whitey" with a bunch of kids and their parents, so I asked another FT to replace me. He said they were actually very organized just like they said.
BUT.......this is another franchise school......so experiences may differ based on location. |

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know the Disney business model?
Their expansion plans are ambitious and hard to see how that could be accomplished without franchising.
That said, they seem totally anal about the product and system.
As we all know if you let a Chinese entrepreneur into a business they will cut corners for short term gain. |

I heard they "teach" kids as young as 2 years old.
That is a class where mums or dads are allowed in and in some way ( I don't know how????) some kind of class is given.
Any company that into money that they are willing to have classes such as these can't be that good.  |

I guess I'm "not that good" then because I teach a classes with 2-3 year-old kids. They kids sit on pillows and their moms are right behind them holding them.
We do activities such as "clap clap clap" and "kick kick kick" or "hands up, hands down", etc. It's singing and clapping, not difficult at all.
50 RMB a class, 8 kids a class, and they come twice a week. With several different classes now, I regret not doing this sooner. A shame though that I am going home soon to greener pastures.
Do the math and enjoy the rest of your day thinking about how much money you are worth and how much you actually get at the end of the day. |

It is 1600 a week per class. 400 an hour. Decent money. Personally, i don't earn at that level, nor would i want to. More like 250 an hour for adults. You could not pay me enough to endure that form of living hell. I would need to work a lot more to make the same. But hey, there are prostitutes who make more than me - I don't envy them either.
Honestly - 2.5 hours for 1000 teaching - or whatever you call what it is you do - whiny poopy brats whilst their mummies sit in judgement? Or, 4 hours to earn the same amount with motivated adults, who sought you out because they need and appreciate what you have to offer.

Thank you for discussing Disney English and providing reviews of this company. I love Disney and would love to work for them as a foreign trainer.
I just want to know whether they will hire Asian American teachers. I am an American citizen who is also Chinese. I watched the video on their site and it seems they do have some Asian teachers. They were wearing the Disney English issued blue shirt and khakis, just like the Caucasian teachers were.
Since this is an American owned company I will probably get a chance.

I am probably willing to say those were the chinese staff making 1/3 of what a foreign teacher makes.
Being American owned is irrelevant in franchise companies. Sadly a school will only hire/keep what it can sell to parents. |
