A franchise. Anything from perfect angels to dodgy buggers requiring the 10 foot pole treatment according to previous threads.
Which you get will be luck of the draw, worth doing the interview but pay attention to what your gut tells you.
I checked out the Choingqing Shapingba operation but skipped actually putting in a job application, the staff wanted a FT pretty bad and were going for the hard sell with extravagant promises, too extravagant for my trust level. |

I tried to apply for a position with them. I say "tried" because the process was interminable. First I was sent to four different reps (they all wanted the same documents). Then I had a 45 minute phone interview. Then they wanted me to submit an interactive lesson plan. Then they wanted audios and videos of me in action. Then......
Then I told them I didn't think I was right for their organization. |

Interesting, thanks for the feedback. I have pretty good instincts but I'm really eager to teach adults |

What city? I have a few friends worked for them in Suzhou, Jiangsu. If you are considering that location send me a pm and I can give you an email address or two. |

I taught part-time at the Meten in Xiamen, nice school overall with a good textbook that pretty much did most of the lesson planning for me. I did a mix of private (up to 4 students), salon (up to 12), VIP (1-2-1), and the nightly English Corners and occasional demos. They paid 100RMB per hour, which was standard for the Xiamen market. The fulltimers were generally happy with their schedules and pay, on average 25 teaching hours per week, 15 office hours for around 10,000 RMB per month. On a sour note, during the time I was there their contracts were changed without notice, teaching days and times and salaries changed, that sort of thing, due mainly to lower enrollments. They were very unhappy about it but they were basically powerless to fight the changes. As someone else mentioned, a lot depends on the location, as salaries and management practices vary widely from center to center. |
