Far too much negativity regarding the OPs MA in philosophy. An MA in any subject can be helpful in the search for jobs, especially if you're looking for a job in the academic world - which includes TEFL, and certainly includes universities. Most people don't have an MA. Ergo, an MA sets you apart.

Depends on the country and type of work you are looking for. |

That's why I wrote "can be helpful".

Thanks Perilla and fladude. That is really helpful information. I think I need to stick with what I am doing for several more years and improve myself.
Glenski, I will make a note that teaching anywhere in Japan in definitely out of reach for me. Thanks for confirming what I already suspected. Thank goodness there are other countries in Asia! I wonder if Thailand, Cambodia, or Vietnam University jobs are as selective as Japanese ones... |

You didn't really mention China, but I'm quite sure that you could get a position at a university in China. Most jobs involve teaching various courses to English majors or Listening/Speaking to non English majors. Hours are generally 12-18 per week with all holidays and vacations off. Pay is usually in the range of 5000 to 8000 rmb per month with housing and airfare included.
I really enjoy teaching in China, as do many others. There is considerable free time to study on-line for another degree or to pursue other interests. There are lots (and lots) of universities in China. You might want to stay where you are for another year and begin researching a move. That would give you two solid years of experience and along with your education you would be a shoo-in for uni jobs. Read the two China forums on Dave's and check out other sites and blogs.
Good luck to you.

| China. There are some unis that pay pretty well. There's a list on the China boards. |

With your qualifications, you should have no problem teaching college level course work in China. Try some of the private colleges. It doesn't hurt to apply. many offer very nice living acomondations and leave you plenty of holiday and vacation time to explore.
