You are expecting much too much organization. Laughing Laughing Your best source of advice on renting a place will be the other teachers. They have "been there/done that." Print yourself off a copy of the list and be aware that you won't be able to afford many, if not most, of the compounds. We teachers are rather low on the financial pecking order.

Take Nomad's advice and relax a bit... (and keep that paper bag handy) Cool

I will I will, its that I can't help not doing some sort of search. I am not able to sit still or even watch some tv. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Yea I realized that Im not able to afford. When I first applied to the university I sent out emails to compounds. LOL first they were so warm and welcoming. After filling out forms and writing in my budget I never got a response Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

thats when I realized Im poor Razz Razz Razz

I am just wishing for a clean decent place.

You guys keep on saying talk to other teachers. In my head I arrive there, some guy is going to pick me up and drop me off at a place for two days. I doubt there will be teachers there, i hope i get a roomie until I find a place. The email says that I need to go there before the 6th because school will close for the summer vacation up until the 25th. They want me there so they can start the paper work.

Im sure there won't be any teachers to get a piece of advice. I doubt Ill be going to school right? err Ill go to school? to get the contacts for rental dudes hmm so how will I go there? will they pick me up? I just thought that they wouldn't..TAXI!! I worked in UAE everything is settled and in order well at least when you compare it to saudi... will i have access to this website? I probably won't have internet?? can I check my mail...oh wait no net...

Shocked Shocked Shocked so many questions...

anyways back to my first thought: talk to teachers... hmm no one will be there.. I'm beginning to sweat...OK i need to go out.. Ill get some ice-cream, go over to my friend, bug her Very Happy give her a big hug, I think I m going to miss her Sad and Ill be backkk...after 5 hrs Very Happy Very Happy see ya all later

sorry for all that.... Embarassed

Baa Baa:

Nope, you won't be able to afford a compound with the housing allowance provided. Nix that idea unless you plan on sharing a villa with a couple of other teachers. On the other hand, there are less expensive, clean housing options available; Jeddah isn't some dumpy city in a third-world country.

Using this forum to freak out on isn't doing you any good. Go directly to the source---let your KAU-ELI contact person know of your concerns asap by asking where you'll be staying once you arrive in country and for how long. Be firm with them, but get this issue resolved so that you can have some peace of mind when you arrive.

Unlikely that your KAU salary will allow you to live on a compound that would be suitable. Wait until you are there and take advice from colleagues.

As I said you may have to forget the compound. If you are in an apartgment look at other possibilities for leisure facilities. My family used the ITALIAN CLUB in Baghdadiya. Swimming pool, tennis courts, restraurant, bridge club etc. Reasonable mebership fee, but there are RULES. (e.g. Abayas forbidden. Sandals forbidden. Guess why !)

Here you go, 2 more lists:

http://about-jeddah.blogspot.com/2008/12/compounds-information_24.html

"Destination Jeddah" is a must-have monthly magazine in Jeddah. Click http://issuu.com/djmagzine/docs/binder41/1 for their latest issue and go to pages 99-100 for a listing of compounds.

Both links have websites of some of the compounds.

Fantastic. What I really like about the site is that when you get to the details of each compound, it shows exactly the same location on Google Maps for each compound. Welcome to the KSA! Your past has begun.
