Ok, so i'm not referring to the rapture, but the end of a contract.

Contract ends mid August. My resident permit is good till August 31.

I'm assuming that i will be good to hang around in my city until my RP expires. Is this correct ? Or when, or if, my employer cancels my FEC is my RP automatically canceled as well?

Any help is greatly appreciated !

As long as you have the RP you're good to stay.

I can relax, thanks. To be sure though - there is nothing my school can do to effect the expiry date of my RP ?

Well, they can cancel it at anytime with a phone call/visit to the PSB. No reason for them to do this though unless you are causing them trouble or pull a runner or some such nonsense.

Canceling your RP means WORK FOR THEM. Unless you did something really bad to piss them off... You Should Be Fine.

Most schools get you an extra month at the end - seems standard.

Not mine. I got three days to get grades in and then I am taken to the airport to return to the states.

I appreciate the responses from everyone !

I have done nothing, nor do i plan on doing anything sinister, so i don't think there would be cause for my employer to make the phone call then.

Is your final day of your contract three days less than the expiry date of your RP ?

Yes.

In some places where I've worked, I got a full year's RP because I came in in January and left in January. My experience lately has been that the public 3-year college issue you an RP that begins on the day that you arrive (or thereabouts, depending upon how quickly the FAO gets to work on it) and ends 3-10 days after the last day of school. Then the school expects you to ship out. I my case, the school sends me back to the states, then pays my way back to China.

So you had to go back each year? Couldn't you extend the RP, visa, or whatever if you were going to continue working with the same employer?

I'm hoping that I don't have to go back to my country of residence every year so that I can save more money. The flight allowance is no small sum.

Is this your preference? This seems to be a hassle. You don't have the option of just receiving the cash and doing with it as you will ?

No, You don't have to go back every year. That's not standard at all. I've been home three times since 2005. The main problem is that school contracts end at random times during the summer. It could be 5 days, 2 weeks or a month after your last day of work. I've had each situation and when you only have a week to get your passport and papers at a new school it's really a hassle. I've found that the school also doesn't give a piss about this condition as they do the same thing to teachers year after year. Because of this it has become a question I ask before signing a contract.
