I haven't come across any, and would this even be possible due to visa restrictions?

You can find one term contracts at universities. Better chance of that happening if you apply to start working in the second term (usually starts in February and end in mid-July). Not many places will offer you a short contract otherwise.

I read your post on the other branch of the forum and your dates don't coincide with this.

You may luck out finding a 4 month opening because someone quit or fled.

BUT there is usually a reason why they did a runner.

or fired.

In this case a school will often try to get the teacher to sign for a year staying until the following winter.

OP would be better off finding a private school with a long probation period that he could walk away from after 3 months. (or 4?)

I had a 4 month contract from end of Feb-June 2012 and it was a great place to work. They even gave us a bonus. This was in Suzhou.

Just saw one posted today looking for people for 4 or 8 months, don't know much about them yet, might be worth looking into.

I have seen contracts ranging from 3-12 months.
Unless it is with a 100% registered outfit then the contract is just for show and not worth the paper it is written on.
Far too much imporance is put on teaching contracts in China.
Just make sure you get paid and stick to the number of hours in the 'contract', either written or even verbal ones (yep, they exist too).
