Hello all,

Just so everyone knows, there is no alcohol on Turkish Airlines leaving from Riyadh and maybe all of Saudi for that matter. I have been informed by the stewardess that the airline gets fined if they load alcohol in Saudi. I will inquire if that is the case on the return flight. Such a bummer to find this out after 11 months in Saudi. Well to get things straight I had a double Jamison's acompanied by chasers of beer after landing in Istanbul.

Will keep you posted. Have to go puke now.

And they expect to find it where? Duty-free? KLM out of Dammam have it hidden away and the stewardess always gives me a knowing, sympathetic smile when I ask for a double.

'Jamison'? Is that a Turkish bourbon?

Airlines have to lock up supplies of alcohol on landing and that includes empties. From time to time the zealots and the bearded ones make life tough for carriers who are lax on this point. Incidentally I knew people who always choose to fly Saudi Arabian Airlines to avoid the appaling scenes of drunkennesss on some flights out of KSA. Saudia (ie Saudi Arabian Airlines) is DRY !

Dear scot,

I bought business class hoping to get good service of alcohol and insulation from those drunkards but to my surprise I was let down. I will never fly Saudi air even if you gave me free tickets first class! I had, and have and will have had enough of those hypacritical religious bearded ones that have their xxx porn satellites and huge mansions and still profess that they are holier than thou.

Regards.

No scot, it's the Jamison hangover speaking. That may be negative on its own. Very Happy

Regards

Grendal

ps I checked the spelling of the Irish wiskey at the supermarket here in Turkey and it is spelled 'Jamison', it doesn't seem to be possessive. Although I am a bit possessive of the spirit when I have it near me.

Another thing I've noticed here in Turkey is the distribution of mesjids/mosques. The closest one to my abode seems to be 1 kilometer in one direction and almost 2 kilometers in the other. Looks like a fair walk to go pray. Gasoline here costs 4.30 Turkish liras per litre!

ps bio-diesel costs 3.30 liras (that's the one I use)

Aren't all spirits on planes automatically served in double-measure (5cl) little bottles anyway?

I think the OP meant the airline isn't allowed to load alcohol for Saudi flights. I don't know about fines, that would make sense considering alcohol is illegal in KSA, but the last time I flew out of Saudi with Ethiopian, they had plenty booze on board (and lots of gorgeous, un-abaya-covered Ethiopian stewardesses too!). I think lots of airlines keep booze on board when entering/leaving KSA. They seem to get a special dispensation to do so, because if they didn't the Saudi police would constantly be raiding the planes on the tarmac! Smile

You avoid drunkenness, AND you get to play an, almost inevitable, game of (non) musical chairs with the Saudi women who refuse to sit next to you!

They have booze on board but it has to be out of sight and locked up when on the ground at a Saudi airport. That includes empties ! Of course loading up with alcohol is NOT possible at a Saudi airport !

Well I'm loading up with plenty of it now for the past few weeks. I think I need a new liver now. Anyone spare some liver?
