I think it's a really good idea to fly over and see what you can get. Cast your fate to the wind.
You live only once. Be foolish. Be young at heart. Call Frank Zhang etc., etc., etc.. |

While I can appreciate your sarcasm, not everyone is as limited in their prospects legally as many of you here seem to be. |

| There's nothing wrong with coming to China without a job, scouting around, finding work, then sorting out the paperwork. In fact this has been recommended on this forum many times. |

7696 is a man of experience no doubt and while some recommend just flying over without a job it should be noted that your start up costs are going to be quite a bit more. You will need a place to stay provided for by yourself until you have work. You may have to fly home to get your paperwork sorted or otherwise you might have to go to Hong Kong. The chances of landing into a illegal job multiply considerably especially for a person lacking experience with the system. All that time your daily needs will cost money and at the end of it all if for whatever reason you cannot find a job you will need to fly home.
Finding a job in China through recruiters and the internet isn't that hard, waiting for your z-visa paperwork and coming over directly to a paying position is much safer and will save you a little or a lot of cash. Working for a company under a legal visa is going to provide you with heaps of advantages and opportunities that the above method may not.
It depends on a lot on of factors, your racial and education background, nationality, sum of all experience and ability, personal finances and your luck. |

You don't have to fly back to the states to get a Z visa, I have done this this year with my british girlfriend. We went to Hong Kong and had no problems. We came here in February with a job lined up, but on tourist visas, we were lucky but had no problems.
Now we live in Shanghai, and there are literally so many jobs I have to turn some down. If you're interested in Shanghai, PM me and I can send you some reliable places to work. |

| Also, if you live in Shanghai, or Suzhou -- you're an idiot if you work for less than 10,000 including housing. |

What about Frank Zhang? I know a recruiter with this name. Is he notorious? |

| A visit to China as proposed wouldn't be complete without the help of Mr. Zhang (or whatever name he's using now). |

Others have not been so lucky, as you seem to realize you beat the odds, that does not mean others will not have to fly home or have some other horrible experience if they opt for the 'jump head first' method. |
