"A forensic investigator of Khanh Hoa provinces Police Department, who declined to be named, believes that drinking too much wine might have led to the deaths of the two foreign visitors to Nha Trang, who have recently died mysteriously at a local public hospital.

"He said he will inform Tuoi Tre News of the real cause of their deaths as soon as they have the official results of the autopsy tests but he did not say how long it will take....

"At 7:30 pm on July 30, Cathy took Karin to the Khanh Hoa Province General Hospital after the latter suffered a mysterious illness.

"When hospitalized, Karin had no injury on her body but suffered from a serious respiratory failure, with her blood pressure dropping to zero.

"Karin was put on a respirator and given intensive treatment and care, but she died at 10:30 pm that night.

"On the noon of August 1, Cathy suddenly developed a shock, a medical term referring to the organs and tissues of the body not receiving a sufficient flow of blood, and was treated at the same hospital.

"Doctors gave her anti-shock therapies and intensive care, but she experienced cardiac arrests during the treatment and died at 2:15 am Thursday."

So the forensic investigator's theory is that a tourist died from drinking too much wine and then three days later her travelling companion died of the same cause? That seems unlikely.

They were visiting from Korea where they worked as English teachers. Their families are trying to raise money to cover the costs of their deaths.

I'm no doctor but I don't think there's any foul play involve here. Based on the info given, it sounds very much like an allergic reaction of some kind, and that could be bad alcohol or some drinks shared by the two young ladies. It could be one of those cobra in the bottle stuff.

My condolence goes out to their families. Sad

How about....doping.

A mickey. Spiked drink.

I have lived and worked in Vietnam for many years and a close personal friend of mine was doped.

I've met a couple of others that were also doped.

It's an easy way to rob somebody. Problem is, the dosage is too much and sometimes people end up dying.

These thieve that do this doping do not have degrees in pharmacology. This is very common in Thailand and unfortunately it is now happening in Vietnam moreso.

And it ONLY happen in tourist areas.

You could be right and it's definitely possible. Here's the problem, the ladies died a day apart. If the drinks were "spiked", you would think the effect would happened simultaneously. A sudden drop in blood pressure like in the first case also happens in patients who contracted E-coli. There's also the anaphylactic shock that usually comes from an acute allergic reaction. They both shared the same room, travels together, and mostly ate and drank together.

I would say there's a high probability that drugs/alcohol or both were involved and the second would come from food poisoning. "Drugs" meaning being spiked with something w/o their knowledge. In the event that these 2 deaths are from what you've have insinuated, the ahole that's responsible is going to get the death penalty here. But still, that's not going to bring them back. Crying or Very sad

I laughed quite audibly at this response, very nice!

It will be interesting to hear any more developments on this story.

People in ANY country need to be careful as to what they drink in a bar for example. Don't drink anything given to you by a person you do not know.

Common sense.

This I have heard of before.

I know of people who have gone blind due to buying illegal spirits in Russia; in a couple of cases, death shortly ensued.

Given that Vietnam copies a lot of spirit brand names it doesn't surprise me.

I remember one time when I was young being at a party, being offered a really strong drink from a nondescript soda bottle (on the Russian border), only to find myself unable to walk for nearly 45 minutes, I was literally paralysed from the waist down. Yes, I was very drunk, but this kind of thing had never happened before and has never happened again (touch wood).

Probably a good reason to buy stuff only in sealed bottles. I try to, but Vietnamese tea is my weakness!

Buy only drinks in sealed bottles would cut out a good 90% of what I drink in Vietnam... I love Nuoc Mia, the draught beer, tra chanh, sinh tho, etc too much to quit.

I've met some teachers who've claimed to have been doped to facilitate robbery. All three were males hoping for some action. I was quite surprised TBH. I have no reason to believe that the young ladies were victims of the same thing.
