I hope they can enforce it... good luck to them!

Hypocrisy should be banned in Saudi Arabia and all the rest of the countries on our tiny planet!

Dear Grendal,

"Hypocrisy should be banned in Saudi Arabia and all the rest of the countries on our tiny planet!"

Umm, just who would constitute the hypocrisy-free enforcers? Very Happy

Regards,
John

I'm sure as with everything else that's banned in the kingdom it will still be available for the rich.

I was told that smoking is one of the few vices permitted. This is news to me. Anyway, I am not a smoker, although I would like to visit some hookah bars and enjoy some of Arabia's finest.

Arabia has no popular tobacco products of its own but you can find a lot of imported tobaccos from around the Mid. East and beyond. Some Arabs find other combustibles to put in the hubly bubbly.

Dear Grendel,

"Some Arabs find other combustibles to put in the hubly bubbly."

Dried fruit's pretty popular - but you may be referring to still "other combustibles." Very Happy

John

There was never a shortage of "other combustibles" in my time there.

It came in cargo container loads of other stuff, brought by a "prince" who did not have to go through customs. It was then distributed by westerners.

It was also smuggled in from Kuwait hidden inside of huge rolls of newsprint.

Some small time operators also would go to Pakistan and chance it coming back. One associate got caught with "other combustibles", and the customs police were so thrilled, they overlooked the "dragon chasing" materials that he also had.

Go directly to jail. When Fahd died, there was an amnesty for non-violent offenders, and he got out.

I need a cigarette between every class.

Crap.

Is it possible on a military base... can you simply sneak out back?

You basically follow the policy of the facility where you work. By the way, if you need to smoke that often, you'll find it tough to get through Ramadan.

I exaggerated a bit. I can get by on two or three in an 8 hour period.

I know what Ramadan is, but I think I might start a thread asking what happens there and what daily life is like.

Some of the outfits that have interviewed me have suggested I take my holiday during that month.

There's already a discussion or two about Ramadan; check for a thread from late June 2014. Plus, there's plenty of info on the Net about Ramadan in KSA.

Probably more about actually following Islam, I'm Muslim and smoking is prohibited in Islam because you are destroying God's creation.

Quran 2:195

Could say the same about alcohol but muslims drink heavily.
