Heya guys I,ve got a small problem regarding a visa. I,ve been offered employment by a kids training centre called Maxen, which is owned by New Oriental. Now everything has been good so far but when reading the paperwork for my visa i noticed the visa is through the New Oriental School in the same city, not Maxen. I,m curious if this is strictly legit after being informed by a Chinese friend to be careful because there have been reports in some of the local Chinese media about Maxen not being certified to employ foreign teachers. Can anybody here shed some light on the subject?

Sounds to me like nothing to worry about. Maxen is just the name of the school but it's a member of a well known franchise. (good and bad btw) Anyways it's like being a manger at Burger King. You don't say "I'm a manager at south Chicago Burger King #1212131". Your more like to just say I'm a manger at Burger King.

Just like you will be a teacher at New Oriental.

I'm in a hurry to go out so any grammar Nazi's swinging by can move on.

I wouldn't be too sure. Maybe that branch of Maxen isn't allowed to hire foreign teachers, in which case in the event of a Police raid you could be fined deported etc.

You're only legally allowed to work for the named company who sponsors your work visa.

Maybe no problem, but I'd suggest a wee bit of caution.

I was told by a western co-owner of a school that a school must be in full operation thirteen months before it may APPLY to hire foreign teachers.

I was leaving a former employer and was approached to teach for a school that had been in operation in my city for eleven months , though the company had been in existence for five years in Jiangsu province.

I agreed to teach at the school ONLY if it could provide me with a written statement that it could secure a new residence permit. After two weeks, the school representative told me that I could work for them on an F visa for a month until it fulfilled the thirteen month requirement, then go to HK for a Z visa and then apply for a local residence permit.

I passed.

The thirteen month requirement seems to be law in Jiangsu province. YMMV in other provinces.
