Hi everyone...
So I've heard a rumor that Saudi Arabia is the "new Korea" for expats and just wondered if anyone who had worked in Korea first, prior to moving to Saudi, had brought their old Korean phone into the Kingdom and been able to purchase and use a sim card? I'm sure it depends on the phone- whether or not it has gsm and is unlocked...
If by chance someone who has worked in both countries does read this- I have the old Korean Anycall flip phone which I bought used in 2007 and used for 3 years. |

In most cases, you should be able to bring your cell phone from South Korea and switch out the sim card and use it in KSA. I have a several sim cards for different counties (including the ROK) and just changed the card once I'm in the corresponding country. I just wish the US would do the same. I think it's the only county that has the sim card "hardwired" within the phone. |

Nothing like a "New Korea". Only that it may be possible to purchase a Samsung laptop or LG smartphone. Otherwise, it is completely another world. |

I know that KSA is nothing like South Korea. I meant that it seems to be the new opportunity for those who once worked in Korea. I figured there had to be at least someone on this forum who had been in Korea and in KSA to work.
Btw- I'm NOT headed to Saudi Arabia. But I will be in the Gulf in a few weeks and coming from the U.S., it is not as easy to get an unlocked GSM phone. And my Korean phone is archaic. So who knows if it will work in the Gulf or not... |
