Has anyone worked for this organization or most recently accepted an offer of employment with this company?
I most recently was extended an offer, they appear to be legit and are very straight forward about the pros/cons of employment and teaching gap year male college students in KSA.
They gave me contact info of employees, to ask detailed questions, but I only heard back from a manager, who was also very blunt.
Guess, I just want to hear from a past employ who did one or two years with the company or someone who just recently accepted an offer.
Thanks |

Thanks for the suggestion to do research here, yet no one has commented about this company in detail since 2009-2010, it's now 2012. The interviewer shared detail about the company's distant past. Two years is a long time, things change, thus any updated information people can share would be helpful.

There was a thread about Al Shabaka created less than a week ago, but it got locked and deleted. I believe another thread from this year also got the boot. None of the posted comments from either thread were positive.
Generally, you'll find contractors like Al Shabaka, Education Experts, ICEAT, Al Khaleej, and whoever else I didn't mention, are best to be avoided. Plus, you're not likely to see any stamps of approval from current teachers working under any of these dodgy companies. |

Shabaka's manager was blunt to the point of omitting crucial information. You visa will be illegal and, by implication, also your contract. Health insurance therefore will also be illegal.
Steer well clear! |

AbeCross- Can you send me the same details about this employer? I'm a female, though, so unsure if the experience would be the same, but would like to know how Shabaka is. Thanks! |

Over the years, things have been pretty consistently negative. The two "disappeared" threads were a bit of a tiff between a poster who felt his experience was fine, and some of the negative posters. Let's just say that it became personal, and that almost always ends up with a locked or a pulled thread.
Seems a place that has had lots of problems and it is up to applicants to decide if it is worth the risk and/or if it is their only offer and "a job" is better than "no job."

Blkinkorea31- It was my post that was deleted a week ago, and I must admit, I did go on "a bit of a rant", however, the majority of what I posted about the company was factual, and based on true events and experiences.
Most of the staff you will find there this year will be new, which, in any organization, regardless of country, kind of tells you what you need to know about what people think of the place. |

Thanks all for he feedback, I've decided against the position. I'm going to remain stateside (USA), to complete a public school teaching certification program. I'll try my hand again at international positions in the new year.

Good decision. If you don't already have it, I would also get a CELTA (more for adults) or whatever is required for teaching ESL in the schools these days.

Thanks, I currently have a MA in TESOL, and four years of ESL teaching experience at the elementary and secondary level, and very limited experience at the tertiary, I have found that most Middle Eastern unis would prefer someone with atleast 3-4 levels at the tertiary level before your consider by a serious institution. I was hoping to use Shabaka as a means to an end, but Im going to hold off for now and go the international school route, get in country, work for an employer and then move into the university level position.
