This time of year, I am tired of hearing this as far as paperwork in KSA Schools and I am Muslim. |

Dear rdobbs98,
Well, the number of times one hears inshallah every day in Saudi is - how else can I put it - inshallah.
Heck, I've been out of there for nearly ten years now, and I still use it almost every day here in Santa Fe, NM.
I mean, after all - it's ALL inshallah, isn't it ?
And I'm NOT a Muslim.
Here's something I posted before:
"If you want to last in Saudi, you need to adopt the "inshallah" mentality.
But let me explain: there's a "good" inshallah and a bad one.
The "bad" one (adopted by far too many Saudis) is basically this: "No matter what I might do, the future is preordained to be as Allah wills it. So, I won't do anything."
The "good" one is basically the same as the "Serenity Prayer,"
Grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
the courage to change the things I can;
and the wisdom to know the difference.
In other words, once you have done all that you can in a situation, you have to be able to let it go, not to drive yourself bonkers worrying about stuff you have NO control over.
Regards,
John |

More old fashioned Scottish Presbyterians use the expression "if I am spared" when talking about their plans for the future ! Much the same !
Church notices routinely had "DV" added - deo volente - which is the Latin for "God willing" !
Laudetur Jesus Christus ! |

After a couple of months of living in KSA, I soon learned there was only one way for me not to be driven crazy on a daily basis:
I had to realize that the illogical day to day happenings (especially with administration) weren't my fault and I was powerless to change the system. Let the waves of fatalism cascade over you and "just sail belly up to the clouds".

That being said, I'm so excited to be back in a world of efficiency.

We are immersed in a universe of random events. Who is to say that the Saudi way of seeing things is better or worse ?
Time for me to go. I have to slaughter a black cockerel and recite some voodoo prayers. |

I shared this one with a few people awhile back. It cracked me up. It was done in the US... Virginia plates on the car. But it seems to me that they are Arabs - know all the in jokes in the Gulf. I wonder if they are Saudi.
I liked the suggestion that in the comments that someone do "Qataris in Ferraris"
