As for ACET curriculum, I have not met one teacher there that says the material is decent or good.
ACET needs to adapt, or they will die. |
In regards to the material, it depends quite a bit on what level you are teaching. In the past there has a distinction between 'lower' and 'higher' levels. In my experience, the course books for the lower levels are pretty good (New English File, Cutting Edge, Language Leader) and, of course, these books are used in many other schools.
The higher levels are a different matter and, in all honesty, many parts of the course books for these units (especially for one particular level), are, to put it mildly, wanting. Of course, you can still provide good lessons by adjusting exercises, leaving certain sections out, using supplements etc. and that's what we all do. There's nothing unusual about this except that you have to do it a lot and, on the plus side, I think it does make you a better teacher. However, having better course books in the first place would have been nice .
Anyway, things are going to change very soon and we will be using new coursebooks gradually over the next few terms. I've been pretty impressed with the samples I've seen so far, but I'm going to reserve judgement until I get the chance to use them in the classroom. |

Also, the recent rise in popularity of RES school has caused many students to leave ACET and study at RES.

RES is a joke. They've got everything figured out except what's probably most important--supporting their teachers.
So don't expect them to last. |

If that is their only flaw, sounds like they are one up on everyone else. |

RES mainly focus on marketing and seem to go through teachers at a faster rate than we drink at the bia hoi.
Those who do survive seem to get a very high salary though if they are popular and the boss seems to be very open to negotiation if the teacher is popular. (The fabled $50 an hour for teaching IELTS is always mentioned) |
