All of you have probably heard about this already, but just in case:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=574&e=24&u=/nm/20040602/wl_nm/crime_japan_schoolgirl_dc_2
And the (perhaps) "motive" is a stunner:
"There was no obvious motive for the attack, but Japanese media said the 11-year-old told police that she had been upset at Satomi for posting a message about her on a Web site and that she had intended to kill Satomi over it."
Makes me wonder how many crimes the Net has "inspired".

Emotional Intelligence. That's what we none of us have enough of. We can't understand or cope with our emotions. In some people it is an extreme problem and they become violent. The girl was probably upset to a point we cannot imagine and just had to get back at the other girl.
This happens a lot in western countries - no real reason why Japan should be different. In some ways the more rigid culture could lead to a lesser level of actual coping ability.
An ex gf of mine once attacked her best friend while at school - grabbed her throat and had to be dragged off. Later she tried to run me down with a car - well, she was driving off in a rage at me - I got in front and she drove into me - though not fast. Low EQ. Massive IQ (this girl is now a qualified vet) but the two do not have to correlate.
Psychobabble it may be - but I think there's something in this stuff. I read the bestselling potted outline and also searched on the net. It gave me great insight into my own life's traumas.

I wonder what the Japanese media and so called `experts` (Pig ignorant ignoramuses) will make of this - no foreigners involved! Maybe they can blame it on the Chinese influence.
I don`t think this is the prelude to something much bigger and more violent. If you comb the internet and the news as I have done for the past few years here, you will remember the case where a boy beheaded another boy and some really nasty cases of violent bullying causing injury and near death, as well as suicide. There have also been any number of murders among ordinary Japanese.
Don`t believe what you hear about the low crime rate - it is just that news is managed and covered up more in Japan. |

unlike the US, Japan has stricter gun control laws.
But violence at schools is a reality.
One of my students hit a math teacher this week.
But that doesn`t seem like much.
I stopped two boys from fighting in my high school English class last month.
I do see that disciplinary problems have been more frequent. In the last two years about 40 kids have been kicked out of my school.
Today I saw one boy kick another boy. I told him to stop and asked why he did that. "Because I don`t like him."
I remember when I taught in Poland and I asked my students how they would stereotype people from various countries, including Japan.
Their answers? First, 'Japanese people are hard working', and the second was 'they are polite'.
I am often reminded that those stereotypes aren`t true, as I get to see rude and lazy Japanese more and more. |
