You say you've only been there for a week or so. Why not wait a while and figure out what's going on before you jump into something?

Nonetheless 120 is what I would consider an absolute minimum regardless of the circumstances.

'Accepting 45 per hour when the boss is taking 100 per hour himself is fine for me. Taking 100 per hour when the boss is trousering 1000 is kinda different.''

I can see no logic in this statement.

There have been many threads about lower paid jobs, and many posters suggesting Chinese teachers and bosses are rolling in money and tucking up the poor and gullible foreigners. In my original post earlier in this thread I mention that many of the classes only generate 120 RMB so its unrealistic to expect that as an hourly minimum. Not every job is equal.

The logic for me is that I wanted to work in that location, at the school, for that employer, teaching that age group, in those hours, and with their class sizes. All of those things are more important than the salary for me.

If I can see that my salary is fair in terms of income generated then I can accept it quite easily. I didnt feel I was being taken advantage of yet if I was earning more as an hourly rate, but less as a % of income Im generating, Id possibly feel uncomfortable, unhappy and ask for pay increases. Maybe its just me Very Happy

I think blanket statements suggesting one should accept nothing less than X are impossible to apply to every job and every place TBH.

Id quite like to work in Kunming, I only want to teach adults, I wont accept classes of more than 10 and Im not willing to work evenings and weekends, do office hours and 15 teaching hours a week are more than enough. 120 an hour equals 7200 a month, and I dont believe a job exists paying that money in that location, working under those conditions. If you know what you want, sometimes you have to accept what the job pays ... and that may not always be what you may think you are worth.

That sounds like a horrible deal, you could walk into an Aston and get 6k for 23 hours with no outside work...

for side jobs, I wont set foot in a school for less than 200rmb/hour and I let them know that I am not available for outside work and If they take photos, im out too.

3500rmb for 20-25 hours psssht.....
