I'm about to get my visa for china at the London Chinese Embassy. The visa form offers :-

single
double
multiple

entry visas at different costs.

I'm planning on visiting friends in Seoul during my year in China so which visa is for me. I take it double means you can enter the country twice? Also I want to be able to visit Hong Kong from Shenzhen when I want. Is a visit to Hong Kong classed as leaving 'the country'? If this is the case I need a multiple visa..Anyone had dealings?

Thanks

Steve

Yeah, double entry means you're allowed to enter twice. And going to Hong Kong and back counts as one entry. Are you coming to China to work? What kind of visa are you applying for? Tourist L visa? Business F visa? If you're applying for a Z work visa there is only single entry, and after you arrive this visa will become a residence permit with unlimited entries.

Yeah a Z visa. So on a Z visa I can visit other countries/Hong Kong without penalty? Brilliant cheers.

It's the Residence Permit (another sticker that looks like a visa) your school gets for you that allows you to leave and enter the mainland. It should take at least a couple of weeks and probably the better part of a month to get it, depending on conditions and your school's expertise and pull. So don't leave the mainland until your school has secured a Residence Permit in you passport. Then you are free to come and go.
