i've had to fill a small cup at each of my health tests. i'm not sure what
they're testing for. could be hepatitis or diabetes or liver disease or kidney
diseast, or std's, or pregnancy. who knows? i wonder if they even know.
was the urine test on the list they downloaded from somewhere?

Had 3 medicals done in Guangdong, all required urine tests. Annoyed, especially for women when there's just a squatter (sorry, tmi)!!!

Also done one in Shaanxi about 3-4 years back without urine test, but possibly changed now.

I suspect they're testing for heavy drugs.

If it's for drugs, then no probs, but nursing seems to have taken a toll on my body and my results weren't normal for a normal person. But guess breastfeeding moms aren't normal Laughing

I would like to provide an update live from Hong Kong.

Although you can still get a z-visa issued from Hong Kong, you now need a medical check done in Hong Kong to do so. I previously had one done at a government-approved hospital in Korea, went to Hong Kong to get the visa (the invitation letter stated that this was OK to do in Hong Kong), but as of about 2 weeks ago the visa rules changed so that the HK visa office will only accept a more expensive medical check done in Hong Kong itself.

So I need a medical check before going to China. At my local GP it would cost over �400, does anyone know somewhere in the UK which does it at a reasonable price? I don't want to spend over �200.

f so, that's officially worrying because I'll need to visa run to HK soon too! But I've already got my Chinese doctor approved medical check done.

It's possible and there are non-native speakers who have been issued Z visas. How possible depends on a lot of different variables though, and no-one here can accurately say if you specifically can get one.

The Beijing clinic near Xi'erqi Zhan does NOT require a urine test and they'll re-certify your expensive foreign med check for about 200 RMB. They only charged me 490 RMB although I thought it was 600.

I am a little confused, I wonder if someone can help me.

I was requested to complete a comprehensive medical check form in my country before leaving for China. With it being a last-minute thing, they have since told me I don't need to get the ECG, chest x-ray, or blood test. They say I can get these done in China. Even without these tests, the price is still substantial, so my question is this...is it possible to arrive to China without any recent medical check and just get it all done there?

Yes, it is possible.

The medical check does not appear to be officially needed in order for a Z visa invite to be issued. My feeling is that employers request a medical check prior to departure as it is just a little more protection for them. When you arrive and start the procedure of changing the Z visa into the RP, another medical will be done in China. It's that 'in-country' medical check that will be used when assessing your RP application.

Do you already have your Z visa?

OK, when you said 'last-minute thing', I assumed you were all ready to roll.

They may not get, or be prepared to get, the Z visa invite until some kind of medical thing is presented. Like I say, based on my own experiences, I dont believe its required to get paperwork issued, and it doesnt need to be presented at the embassy with a visa application, but they may request something as a form of protection for them.

Where are you?

In the UK, you can attend a sexual heath clinic and get a HIV test. That is free (you might need to blag it about your sex life to get a test). I had this given to me in writing and sent it with a �15 Doctors letter that said 'Denim-Maniac has no serious or continual health issues and as such is able to work full time in a number of employment positions' or similar. That was enough for me to secure my first Z visa invite.

I did have to get a full medical in China. I am now applying for another visa as Im back in the UK now, and havent had to provide any health check because 'I did one a couple of years ago'.

I'm in Spain right now, though originally from Britain. Stupidly I had never bothered applying for my EU health card (until now) hence the need to go private.

They've sent me a 'health commitment' which apparently will now suffice to get my invitation letter. I'm assuming I can apply for the visa at the Chinese embassy here in Spain.

Not sure its going to happen though. A few parts of the contract that I'm not too keen on and the recruiter appears to have decided to ignore my concerns.
