Hi. How much easier is it to apply for jobs from within Japan than from the outside? I am asking because I already have my visa but I would like to keep my options open after I arrive.
Thanks. |

What type of Visa? tourist,work,student?
The job market is deffinetly larger if you life in the country as most companies would prefer face to face interviews. With the increased job market you will also be prepared for travel costs/living costs and unless you want to work on a tourist visa usually a 4-6 week period where your visa status gets changed |

If you are already in Japan, odds are better for you because you can now apply to all positions (otherwise, some state categorically that they only want applicants from people living in Japan).
However, your odds improve even more if you have a work visa, too.
The more experience you have in Japan also makes your situation look more favorable.
Beyond that, it's up to you and your personality and interviewing skills. |

What do you mean? It's straightforward.
Get hired at a job that fits the visa category (ALT does not; eikaiwa does).
File the paperwork for the visa along with what is needed from the employer. Wait.

Just wondering how long it takes and whether it would involve my travelling back to the UK or not ... I am in Thailand. |

You can start off with three or five years, to my knowledge. |

It is up to immigration to decide whether you get a HV for a 1-year, or 3 or 5 year period. Do not expect the longer terms as a norm.
If you apply for it, how long it takes will depend on many factors. Some times of year are slower due to high volume or long national holidays. Expect 2 to 8 weeks as a general rule, and do not expect to do much (if anything) to hasten immigration. |

Read my reply on your other post. IMO, you would be wasting your time. |

The expert in humanities visa (1-yr) is pretty standard for English teachers coming to J, IMO. As a UK national, you shouldn't have a problem getting that even if you're in Thailand. I'm sure there's an embassy in Bangcok. |
