Hi there VS! Sounds like you missed me! Smile How YOU doin'?

I've been messin' around. I went to Kuwait for awhile, but I swear the students there are completely useless. I was working at an oil company teaching new "conditional" employees. I swear they were the worst--

It was awfully quiet around here... as it is every summer.

I'm doing fine... about to hit the road for a month of checking out the Fall Foliage. Now there is an activity that is hard to explain to one's students in the Gulf. Cool

VS
(for any newbies... there are places in Kuwait where the students are completely different than those described here. They are found at some of the university level positions.)

The only industry in Khafji is KJO and some small shops that the people who work at KJO get their supplies from Otherwise the only thing there is a fishing club and they DO catch some nice fish in the area. Kuwait students are worthless and even more arrogant than the Saudis. They are better educated and they don't have to live under Saudi rule so they are much more arrogant people in general.

The worst treatment have ever received in the workplace has been in KSA. My co-workers and even the extreme low level expat labor help such as janitors and tea boys have treated me well. It would be a toss up as to which employers treated me the worst. Would it be the Saudis or the Brits in positions of management or responsibility? One American site director I found to be arrogant and full of himself to the point where he was dubbed "The Sphinx" for his stone face when dealing with issues.

The Saudi owner of the company I worked for my first time in country simply lied and did everything he could to get around not only the contract he signed with us teachers, but also the contract he signed with the Saudi company we were contracted to.

The second company (EdEx) simply did not pay me and still owes me about $7000.00. They also put me over a barrel and gave me the "option" of accepting a minor portion of the money due me and flying out the next day or being stranded in Riyadh with an expired visa, no money and no place to stay.

The third company just had a slow down in business and did not renew my contract. They did not tell me they were receiving daily harassing phone calls from an obsessive ex GF left behind. Had I know of that situation I may have been able to stop it by legal means, but otherwise that company treated me well enough.

The last place had "The Sphinx" and little in the way of support, terrible housing and no attempt to solve the visa dilemma. That was a combination of maltreatment by Saudis, Brits and Americans.

Most of the students have been above board, with the exceptions of the secret reporting by the religious right wingers when offended by something that no logical person would be offended by. After my first trip to KSA I always told EVERY class that if they did not like something I did or said to tell ME first and I would fix it, solve it or do something different. Saudis are not capable of talking one on one when they have issues and always go direct to the top Saudi they can find with their complaints.

In the real world they would lose jobs or places in society by always needing to bypass the chain of command or whatever term should be applied to that kind of situation. They act like the children they have been raised to be.
