Confused Hi all, I am first time poster and I was just wondering considering there is so much flak on distance degrees, Is my DL degree from a small University in New Zealand worth much?

You see my problem is that the only University that was worth attending had more rats than students. So I branched out to obtain my BA. It took me awhile but after 5 years, I finally completed. And I am so excited to go to Japan to work. But now I have to say I am little scared. Crying or Very sad

Now that been said, I like to point out that I have always been a insanely happy person. I don't mind making minimum wage in a village of two 100 days hike from the last petrol station.

Okay guys let me have it.

P.S I read all the post before I did this, but I might have missed a few things. So I apologize before hand, I dont want to make any one mad.

At least with a DL learning degree, you don't risk fines (repaying how much money you made), jail (in prison where the guards don't speak English and conditions are very harsh), deportation, and being blacklisted from returning to Japan for 5-10 years.

I don't see why immigration won't accept the degree. It shouldn't matter as long as your degree is legitimate and it sound like it is.

Just out of interest: thats not that Brookes university (based in the UK but with a branch in new Zealand)? Never really heard of NZ unis offering distance degrees.

New Zealand universities (all seven or eight of them) are accredited (I should know- I graduated from Auckland university) and a distance degree from a New Zealand university should be OK, provided its not a branch campus of an offshore university or an unknown satellite located in New Zealand.

Shocked I studied my BA at Open Polytechnic of New Zealand. Are they any good?

But I think you are right, I think there's another place called Massey I think. They offered programs mostly Business & IT.

Not sure about Brookes, I think the closest I found was Oxford Brookes University. I wasn't looking that far. I kinda stumbled on to course and it was the one I wanted.

It was little confusing at first. I mean there were places like Ashwood University & Almeda University wasn't a university and there was lot of those fake places. Then there is the accreditations.

When I was at Auckland (class of '87) you couldnt get university degrees at Polytechs and it was where you went if you want to become a chef or a boatbuilder. how times have changed. I would guess if its a 3 year degree with a polytech you shouldnt have any problems. that said, I believe TAFE diplomas and degrees in Australia do not qualify for work visas in Japan so Im not sure what the rules are these days.

Massey University in New Plymouth is quite legit and above board. they have a good MBA program or something I hear.

havent heard of the others though.
