The thread's obviously not about pets, but I can't help diverging here:-)

Quote:
Dogs that are family pets do sometimes attack small children. Part of the problem is that adults dont see any potential danger in their family pet and allow unsupervised contact to happen.

Ive read a little about training dogs and one trainer said that people need to understand that they must be top dog. An example of this would be out walking with a dog; it should follow along with you. You dont allow it to stop and sniff and do all those doggy things it likes doing because its sending a message to the dog that its top dog. (The trainer mentioned that lots of people immediately object to this notion and say its unfair to the dog).

On the issue of kids, dogs (like wolves) are immediately wary of and may treat as prey any animal that is not moving consistently. Small children tend to move erratically and to do unpredictable things, and all dog owners should be alert when around small children. My own dog is wary of little ones, and I'm always on alert when they are around.

So far as the dog always following his/her owner, it's actually quite easy to establish two modes. In the small park outside our home, it's 'his' time; he's allowed to sniff and goof off and do toileting. When we leave (or bypass) this area, he's in walk mode (as opposed to doggie dawdle mode) and there's no dissention on this shift. I think that almost any dog can easily be trained to know the difference in his toileting time and a proper walk. That's fair to both sides, IMO Laughing

How does this fit into the dialectic?

I'm afraid that this will have to go into your Party record. An inquiry might not be possible to avert, even for a member of your standing. a select committee will certainly have to be formed...

Ah, but the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly and the world may end on 21 December anyway, so I'll just get on with my modest plans for now, shall I? A few mulled wines on the cobblestones, some paper marking, a little gabbing with all you guys on the forums....until you send out the Bulgarians to administer corrective measures:-)

A well-timed confession and admission of errors may see you back in good stead. Can't promise anything, but will do my utmost to call off the dogs if things get out of hand...

Very Happy

The malarial deaths that johnslat mentions aside, I don't know why Man arrogantly sees himself as the top of the food chain. If Mosquitodom were drawing the picture things might look very different. The only food pyramid Mankind would be at the top of then is 'tasty snacks'.

There are many food-chains. Man is the top of his. If only he'd realise it, unite, and stop letting the Piggies bind him with it! Grrr!

Dear Sasha,

Workers of the world, unite. You have nothing to lose but your (food) chains!

Very Happy

John
