I've heard nothing but good things about the teacher's college. Some one from my church here in china will be teaching there next semester.

Thanks naturegirl. Unfortunately, that makes the decision process even more complicated. I just started applying on Friday and have alread recieved two offers from good schools. However, one is in the middle of nowhere, (I don't mind the middle of nowhere, so long as there's a possibility of getting to somewhere interesting within a reasonable amount of time. But this seems pretty remote), and Jilin may be a bit too far north for me, (what's the pollution like there? I've heard in general it's pretty awful up there). Oh well, I'll have to keep applying and start makeing some decisions sometime soon.

One of the things that amazes me about the northeast of China is how blue the skies are 95% of the time. Compared to Wuhan, Lanzhou etc Changchun and Jilin have exceptionally good air quality.

I would have to agree. I am currently in Tianjin and this is a dump. The streets have ten time as much garbage pilled up in them and the air quality is much lower than that of Liaoning and the the other NEern cities I have been to. The level of industry is so much smaller up there. I guess some people have complained about the coal pollution, but Tianjin, has wind, sandstorms, coal pollution, chemical factory pollution, normal factory pollution, non-catyletic converter car pollution, plus whatever the guy on the street is burning.

The down side to the NE is that undeveloped areas have less western items for sale like Starbucks and such. The other thing is the winters, but personally I would take a Jilin winter before a Guangzhou summer any
day.
One thing I was about that job though that was a little fishy was the shared accommodation. Thats strange for a state university.
