Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there has got a job in Istanbul with just an online Tefl certificate?
While I have the funds to do a classroom based course, I have noticed that a combined classroom and online course offer 4 hours of teaching practice, while classroom based course only offer 2 more hours, 6 in total...I have a months worth of voluntary teaching experience in a school and private, which I did in Istanbul last month.
Would if be feasible that this combined with a 20 hr classroom course and a 100/120 online component would ensure I get a job in Istanbul?
All the job ads I've seen don't state that online course are not accepted, as in some countries.
Anyone who has secured a job this way, please get in touch.

Yes, online works here.
Many online certificates don't even say that the work was done online.
Turkish Ministry of Education accepts TEFL certificates online as well.

Online is all you really need in Istanbul, although you'll be far more prepared if you do a face to face course.

Interesting to read this. Not so long ago it seemed that online certs were rejected by the ministry. Or was that just a story put out by face to face course providers?

I can't stress enough how much better a face to face course is. Online certification is still looked down upon by a lot of employers (as it probably should be), but some schools just don't care. While it's enough to get a job, it may not be enough to keep a job.

It seems to be getting easier these days to get a teaching position and yet there is still this mad scramble for M.A's and P.H.D's. A bit like getting a fine arts degree when all you are ever gonna be allowed to do is paint the front door and the bloody windows!
There was a time when wannabe instructor needed at least a couple hundred hours in the classroom before they got started, nowadays a course is enough, no wonder the kids are getting worse!
