I left 10 years ago. Two places that I used a lot were the British Community Library in the British Consulate and the Italian Club in Baghadiya.

Are these still functioning ? Someone has asked me about places to go in Jeddah.

I'd like to ask about swimming beaches for women and is there a possibility of going sailing and/or windsurfing there?

For swimming in the Red Sea the best bet is to join one of the "Clubs" to the north of the city. Many offer watersports. Some are pricey.

Yes, both are still functioning.

As for beaches, you will have to go to the private beaches in North Obhur. Silver Sands is reputed to be the best or one of the best. Sheraton has one too, and another good one is Nakhil. Try out different ones on successive weekends and then stick with one.

Entry charge during weekdays ranges from SR. 50 to Sr. 80. On weekends, SR. 80 to SR. 100. Many/most also have yearly membership offers. And if you are rich, you can permanently (until you are in Saudi) rent a chalet/villa on any of the beaches.

Thanks for the replies. I will be in Jeddah for just 4 days. My plan is to sunbathe, swim, snorkel, sail and shop!

Hallucinations are quite commonly suffered by Franks who have been in Arabia for a while.

Hey ho so it goes.
