Hi all. Been sent a few emails from recruiters advertising for English and Maths teachers with a 30 minute craft test for both English and Maths tests.

Any ideas what this is about? Have trawled through the internet and found this post on a Phillipines website for the same job. I am from the UK but puzzled by the contents of this test.

No reason why it should make sense. I remember when Saudi Arabian Airlines routinely administered totally inappropriate tests to determine who should be a Saudi trainee on a technical programme in the USA.

Maybe they would be better just doing the I Ching ? Or examining the entrails of a black cockerel ?

I've never heard of a "craft test" ... do you have to make a quilt or knit a sweater? Wink

Pretty sure by "craft test" they mean "content test".

I interviewed with them last year for a math position. The math exam contained 15 questions. 30 mins in length. Included concepts from intermediate algebra, trigonometry, and AP calculus. Short answer. No calculator allowed.

Be prepared to also give a short teaching demonstration unannounced.

Pay is not as much as a direct hire. But have heard that teaching load is very good and overall package is pretty good deal.

Good Luck!!

Oh man, the words 'craft test' got me thinking (and laughing) about an Aramco moment in the desert outpost of Udhailiyah a few years ago.

The trainees had been given a one week Safe Driving course (evidently of no value whatsoever) at the end of which they built a model of a road system with cardboard houses and trees, etc. Christ knows why, but they did, and it looked like something the local kindergarten kids had knocked up. I was having a look along with 2 managers who managed to break off a chimney stack made out of a toilet roll. All hell broke loose, and, when they couldn't fix it back together, one of them bellowed, "Dillip! Dillip! Fetch the paste! Fetch the paste!"

Dillip was the Nepali cleaner who pretty much ran the show.

Thanks for that, makes a bit of sense now, so just a basic Maths test then... And can I be cheeky and ask how much the package would be? Pm me if you prefer and did you end up going...?

A truly great man from the foothills of the Himalayas. He could also do amazing impersonations of the people at work, the best being a lampoon of the London Mootower with his trousers half way up his legs, the size of his stomach preventing him seeing his fashion mistake.
