She wasn't drinking alone according to that report. She was out with her bf and they were drinking together, then they became separated. She was on her way home when assaulted.
These thugs were Thai, and I've read several reports of foreign women being assaulted by locals. But Thailand and the rest of SE Asia seem to attract a lot of scummy foreign elements who cause trouble as well. |

Yeh, she wasn't alone. She got separated. But you're right: a girl should not be alone at night in Thailand. Especially south Thailand... I live in Bangkok and most Thai girls I know will not travel alone at night, even in a taxi. Many times I have to accompany them in the taxi to their home and then go all the way back to my home. I've had Thai girls ask me to walk them home at 8:00 PM, a block from our office, in what I thought was a safe neighborhood. A couple weeks ago, a foreigner friend sent his foreigner date home alone in a taxi. She said the driver stopped the taxi under a bridge in a dark neighborhood, locked the doors, and pulled out a knife. She started screaming at him, so he let her go. So, Thailand is safe and it's not... |
