Hi,

Also does anyone have any up to date information on Isik, Istanbul? I have also been invited for an interview with them and hoped there might be some people with current or recent experience and knowledge on the school, management, atmosphere, salary etc..

thanks so much

I have a friend that works at Isik. Basically, they are one of the highest paying schools in Istanbul. My friend makes around 50,000 USD a year. Hold on to that job like grim death. It's a good place to work.

This is all second hand information, so take it with a grain of salt. Apparently the other teachers are generally qualified and decent to work with. You'll have to plan out your entire year of classes before the school year starts. I believe a lunch is provided everyday, but you would make so god damn much money you could go out if you like. The school also pays for a flat (up to 1100 TL if I remember correctly) and will furnish it. I haven't heard any complaints about the Turkish staff (who are usually the biggest problem at these private schools).

Basically, it's a dream job. You'll work a lot, but you also get paid vacation in the summer and in January.

Really? A TEFL teacher? If that's the case then I'm now REALLY miserable. That makes about 4,000 usd (6,000 tl) a month with no rent to pay Evil or Very Mad

ISIK teachers are NOT just TEFL teachers.. they are certified teachers from the USA, etc...

And 4,000 dollars is much higher than 6,000 lira.

They are running an ad now on Craiglist under Education Istanbul- you can read the requirments for jobs there

Not true according to my friend, although this is how it's advertised. A mildly related degree will do nicely.

Seriously, it's crazy the discrepancy between our pay rates for very similar qualifications. She knew someone at the school and shockingly got the job. Apparently she works with someone that has "*beep* you" tattooed on their knuckles and they earn the same pay as her. Ugh.
