There's no way he would use such performance enhancing substances. |

Dear guest of Japan,
Ah, I believe that was the subtle point of the OP's message. These are the jokes, son.
Regards,
John |

I thought jokes were supposed to be funny. If so, please explain this one. It's been a tough day. |

I believe steroids have the opposite effect--when men take them, their hormones go all weird and girlie. (And that is the extent of my scientific knowledge...)

So Marion's a He. He/She looks better than many those East German women that used to compete in the Olympics. Guess the drugs have improved.
Maybe now with so many Americans out of the Olympics in track and field, someone else may win for once. |

I don't recall Americans ever winning field events. Come to think of it, I can't recall white Americans winning anything on or inside the track, although I suppose they must have. |

Dear steampig,
"The Worlds #1 Track & Field Team, Team USA has won more than three times as many gold medals as any other country in Olympic track and field competition (297), and more than twice as many medals overall (688)."
Well, drugs worked for me, too - back in the 60s.

John |

John, you scoundrel - I didn't realize you were a track & field star. Or did you mean some other kinds of drugs? (Wondering why there isn't an "angel" icon.) |

Dear anthyp,
Well, in my "real persona" (Forrest Gump, that is), I took 7 golds at the 1968 Olympics (down - or rather up ) in Mexico City. Don't bother looking for my name in the record books, though. My wins were expunged due to the political protest I made ( I gave Tommie Smith and John Carlos the idea.)
Regards,
John |

Back to the topic of Marion Jones, I find it difficult to believe that she had a baby last year after coming off a period of drug use for sports enhancement. The father of that child, Tim Montgomery, who has been one of the world's best sprinters in recent years is linked to the same supplier as Jones. Are they that stupid and took a big chance, or are they just guilty of developing a relationship with a type of person who probably would not be averse to developing a relationship with them?
I think it's ludicrous to ponder WHITE Americans and Olympic medals in the field events. But since Steampig did, I'll oblige for the last three games:
Shot Put: Gold/Silver '92, '96, Bronze '00
Pole Vault: Gold/Silver '00
One or two other medals in the hammer and ...
Include all Americans and there are more for the long jump, triple jump, high jump and tiddly winks.
I'd prefer we throw out the count for medals by nation. Even though I come from the US, I have enjoyed a lot of athletes over the years:
Seb Coe winning 1500 Gold without breaking a sweat. '84
Carlos Lopes, at 35, comfortably winning the marathon. '84
Donovan Bailey and three others going under 10 flat in '96.
Lasse Viren doing a Gold double double of the 5000 and 10000 in '72 and '76. |
