				| Hi all
I've noticed that UAEU are currently advertising for their foundation program and was hoping to get a little feedback from those in the know. Any information on normal work loads (contact hours and office/admin responsibilities), work environment, normal accom. and vacations, would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks heaps

Maybe you could try asking on this site...devoted to UAEU...the good. the bad and the ugly...after having a gander myself...seems it's mostly the bad and the ugly

				| We have had almost zero complaints here for the last couple years. I find the gossipy "hate" blogs represent the views of a small minority while there is probably an equal amount who love their job there... with most teachers in the middle depending on department, position, current manager, day of the week, and next door neighbors.
Not to mention that the last post on that link was in 2010...

That site was created by a mentally unstable person who was fired from the university years ago. He is still sending harassing e-mails to teachers and admin in the Foundations Programme. The entire site is filled with lies and shouldn't be taken even 1% seriously.

				| I agree about the general assessment of the blog but must also note there has not been any vociferous response to the contrary to date that I've seen?
ETA but then again, those who are not unhappy generally don't post about it - I must remember that.

I don't think you'll find any vociferous responses to the website because frankly, it's so obviously ridiculous that it has become a running joke amongst all who are familiar with it.

Folks in UGRU (UAEU Foundations Programme) are generally quite happy and there is very little turnover. The general consensus amongst staff is that it doesn't get much better.

To answer the OP's questions, typical teaching hours range from 16-18 per week plus 4 office hours and 4 additional hours for 'Committee Work' (working with students, creating iBook or other materials, etc.).

Accommodation is varied but typically very nice. Size depends on the size of your family but is typically 2-4 bedrooms.

There is a lot of vacation time. We get 3 weeks in December / January, 2 weeks in April, about 2 months during the summer, and breaks for the two Eid holidays.

The work environment is great. There is a lot of support and the amount of materials available is superb (almost overwhelming). The Coordinators within the programme are well-liked, approachable and very professional.

I reckon that this is one of the best, if not THE best, gig going in the Gulf.

				| As long as some ministry person doesn't get any wild ideas to spring on them again. I am glad to see that it got back to how it had always been in the past. It was a bad couple years though...

It was a bad couple of years, and who knows...there are no definites here in the Gulf. Bizarre things always tend to rear their ugly heads in this region. For the time being, though, things are stable and going swimmingly.

				| Can anyone point to good universities (names)? And where do they typically post? I don't think I ever see ads on Dave's for them. I see some for Saudi Arabia, but I haven't seen for any UAE unis. | |

For a list of all UAE unis/colleges, there's wikipedia; you can check each institution's website for job postings.

Thank you kindly for those links. I will add them to my data base. I updated my CV and want to see what's out there.

				| Best place is their websites. Some of the better employers rarely run ads... like Zayed University, American University of Sharjah, or UAEU because they have so few openings.

That's exactly the kind of slander that caused the demise of so many decent people at UAEU. If 'there are no complaints from UAEU any more', it's because they've finally managed to weed out... by abuse, slander, gossip & intimidation...... all the potential whistleblowers, leaving behind the compliant and the intimidated. There's always a 'And then they came for me' day coming, though. As many of these have found out...
