My boyfriend and I are considering a move to Istanbul in July. Would you recommend living on the European side or the Asian side of Istanbul? Why or why not? |

Depends what you are looking for. Kadikoy, for example, is a fairly relaxed place which has most things you would want. But all the hustle and bustle of commercial life seems to be on the European side, with the lion's share of schools.
Don't know if you have ever been there, but crossing to one side or the other on a ferry is a delight in itself, and is fairly fast and efficient. Certainly, for me, it was one of the best work commutes I have ever done. However, this really all depends on how far from the Bosphorus you are based, and how late you need to make the crossing. Somewhere like Kartal is miles away... |

Nope! Never been. We're looking for affordable, since the jobs we've been offered are only paying 1800 TL / month each. Do you think this is doable? I'm moving with my partner, so we'd share the costs of living.
I'll definitely check out Kadikoy. We've been given the option of which side we'd like to teach on. Yay! Thanks! |

Sorry. I cannot comment on the relative costs there. I have not worked there in quite a few years. You'll have to get information from teachers there on the ground.
But Kadikoy is a good spot. Not as conservative as some other areas, but not as frenetic as Besiktas on the European side. |
