He sounds like the kind of individual who likes the part time hours the lower paid gigs afford whilst having a 'comfortable' lifestyle but at the same time hates himself because he doesn't have the material goods and extra moolah that the higher paid, more stressful careers reward.
Bit like a lot of guys I work with who moan why they aren't commanding 'X' amount on a BA degree in Poli-science.
'Well, go and get an MA or extra qualifications'
'That's not fair, why do I have to get extra qualifications' Rolling Eyes
It's like talking to a wall. |
This again. Here come the unwarranted personal insults because someone didn't like a topic you raised.
Stop the bitter remarks please. Whatever made you this angry it's not my fault.
I work full time with a decent salary for where I am. Not that it has anything to do with what we were talking about. |
It does, it proves my previous point to be spot on. You want to move on but you have a comfortable life wherever you are so you are between a rock and a hard place. Giving up an easy life to going back home where people expect you to work for a living. Tough call man! |

I went off to Italy and TEFLd for a year, came home for a visit. Had no problems leaving again. Then went to HK for year. Came back and have stayed a while for various reasons - no good jobs to go to and love being being around my folks.
My parents are both retired and of course not getting younger. My sister has just had a baby and I adore seeing it. But I'm HATING living in England again and my job here. And I honestly can't afford the time and money it would take to go into a different industry.
I'm really stuck - I don't want to leave my family again but if I stay here in my home country and carry on in the industry I work in (journalism) I will go mad and possibly take them all with me.
It's a real toughie. I have no answers but you have my total sympathy. |

Journalism is one of those fields where there are not enough jobs to go around. A lot of grads would probably kill for your job. I take it from your feelings you don't have a particularly interesting role in the field?
I feel your pain though. Coming back has made me realise that without retraining there really is little hope in the UK. Likewise without getting an MA in the education field there is nothing beyond private institute jobs abroad.
I forgot that Hagwon jobs in Asia only allow for 12 or so days holiday. In Greece you get a couple weeks at Christmas, couple at Easter, and 2 months in summer. However, those 2 summer months are unpaid. But no big deal, gives you the chance to go away and do anything for a bit.
I've just been looking at jobs in Asia considering a return but think this sharp contrast in vacation time would be a major downer. |
