He is STILL sending threatening emails and making those calls! One person I know had to change his number. What a piece of work!

I had totally forgotten about how he came to that meeting drunk. He was lucky that admin was so patient with him. It could have gone completely differently.

It is unfortunate, but this profession truly has its share. I've heard he was lucky he didn't end up in jail with the crap he was pulling by the end. He has gone on and on about the injustices done to him, but doesn't stop to consider why he didn't end up in more serious trouble. He also probably got a sizeable severance. We all know the deal when we come here. Some of us can handle it, and others can't.

I agree about the general assessment of the blog but must also note there has not been any vociferous response to the contrary to date that I've seen?

ETA but then again, those who are not unhappy generally don't post about it - I must remember that.

As alluded to previously, there have been no significant responses due to the fact that very few people want to have anything to do with this delusional and paranoid individual that enjoys posting to himself under various 'aliases'. Constructive discussions are one thing. Perverted and schizophrenic ramblings are completely another.

insubordination, and other mental health issues

I'm not taking sides except to point out that insubordination is not neccessarily a mental health issue. If the United states had not been insubordinate we would still be a part of the British Empire. Our Founding Fathers were not mentally ill. And did somebody mention Nazis? Ever hear of the "good Nazi" defense? "I was just following orders!" No insubordination there, but possibly a mental health issue.

Perhaps my point was lost in translation. He is nuts and at the same time he was acting in an insubordinate manner (e.g. refused to follow directives, showed up at a meeting drunk, etc). Not sure what planet you are from, but that is usually jusification for dismisal in many contexts.

I'm from the planet of English teachers who value clear communication. I've graded so many essays, it's just a habit to edit anything I read. If you just drop the word "other," you're good to go. But it was not a trivial error. It reveals an overzealousness that detracts from your argument.

The grammar police - just kidding. It was a slight fault in what I had written. I must say, however, that I hope that the word 'Nazis' doesn't come up in this thread again. I often laugh at the irony of using that term in the context of the Middle East.

p.s. 'other' has been deleted...no pun intended

Ok. he refused to follow directives and he showed up at a meeting drunk. Gee, that could certainly put half of us in that category.

But what directives didn't he follow exactly? Can you explain more fully?

Just curious.

By the way, I actually like his site. It's funny and it does raise some appropriate issues with UAEU and teaching in the Gulf generally.

I'm trying to stay impartial here. A lot of what is written is needlessly nasty and offensive, but some of it is quite pertinent and spot on.

I don't know what you mean? By asking questions and not taking things at face value?
